PGR Representatives

As a PGR student, you can put yourself forward to become a PGR Rep in your Division, School or programme.

Being a rep is way to get involved and influence what's happening to PGRs at a local and university level. It's also a good way to bolster your CV.

What PGR Reps do

Divisional reps get together once every couple of months to raise issues with the School rep, School PGR Director and the Doctoral Academy.

There are one or two main School rep(s) per School, who sit on the relevant School committee and as well as on the Faculty Doctoral Academy Leadership Team. School Reps also then alternate and sit on the university-level Manchester Doctoral College Strategy Group.

Divisional and Programme Reps are responsible for providing a voice for a defined group of students in one division or programme. They help ensure good communication between their students and the relevant divisional/programme academic lead.

Larger divisions and programmes may have several reps. You may wish to take on a specific area of interest (e.g. wellbeing) or focus on the concerns of a particular group of students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Liaise regularly with the Division’s Senior PGR Tutor
  • Disseminate information to/from School rep to/from student cohort
  • Identify new PGR Division reps
  • Develop feedback mechanisms to identify issues and concerns amongst Division PGR students
  • Organise Division-led events such as seminars, socials and induction activities
